Salimah has always possessed the spirit of creativity. This native New Yorker is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology with a major in Photography. She has been a featured photographer in many exhibits across the country and she is an award winning photographer.

Salimah is a current member of KAMOINGE, INC. She received a grant from The Open Society Institute for her work in "KAMOINGE: “Revealing the Face of Katrina". Her work is also part of a permanent collection at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

Her work has appeared in the following national publications: Essence Magazine, Ms. Magazine, Black Enterprise, USA Today, Newsday, The New York Times, LA Times and The Washington Post.

This esteemed photographer who uses her eyes to voice her words and continues to share her vision with the world through her works in several books, which includes photography in "Black Women in America", a three-volume encyclopedia set of Black Women in America from all walks of life.

Salimah’s love for photography has taken her on many journey’s: such as Hong Kong, Singapore, St. Lucia, Canada and other places around the world. She has also photographed such celebrities as Earth, Wind and Fire, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Eartha Kitt, Patti LaBelle, Grace Jones and others.
